Lessons You Can Learn from the Latest Global Data Protection Index

There are many challenges for businesses out there, but thanks to the GDPI 2021 survey issued by Dell, you can rest assured that you are not alone with your difficulties, whether they lie in technology management or cybersecurity. Let’s go over the survey results and figure out what they might mean for your business.

The Global Data Protection Index is a survey issued by Dell of 1,000 IT decision makers. These decision makers are from around the globe, and we think you might find the results interesting. They can inform your business practices moving forward, and honestly, you might not be all that surprised by some of these statistics. You might have felt some of these issues yourself.

The Ransomware Threat

Ransomware is a major problem in the cybersecurity environment, and it’s a fact that businesses don’t believe they are able to respond to it in an effective way. 62 percent of respondents to the GDPI survey indicated that they were concerned about their abilities to respond to a ransomware attack. This is clearly an issue, and one that showcases just how devastating ransomware can be for businesses around the world.

Remote Creates Risk

With a remote workforce now front and center, many businesses have remote security at the top of their minds. 74 percent of respondents find themselves at an increased risk of a data breach due to their remote workforce. It’s not necessarily the employees’ fault, either–it’s just the fact that networks are more spread out and employees are working off the safety of their in-house network, meaning breaches are just that much more likely.

Cloud-Native Apps and Emerging Technologies

63 percent of the businesses surveyed identified cloud-native apps as another point of contention, along with other emerging technologies, like artificial intelligence and machine learning. These technologies are somewhat new, and so are the security measures designed to protect them, so there is naturally a greater element of risk associated with their implementation.

Even if knowledge doesn’t make the threats go away, it’s still important to know that you are not the only business suffering from new challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. These trends indicate that you might need to consider some new security measures for your business, which is where we can help.

KB Technologies can help you each step of the way with protecting your business, from implementing innovative new tools to maintaining your current ones. To learn more about how we can keep your business secure, reach out to us at (954) 834-2800.
